KAYLA STEWART
I am a lover of layers, of stories and experiences that enrich us. My passion for design stems from my lifelong love of telling those stories through creative expression. I am a creative at heart but interior design has a particular hold on me. I feel strongly that what we surround ourselves with will influence our lives in ways we may not always be aware of and when we can make those spaces reflect our highest selves, the rest just seems to fit into place.
Originally from Southern California, I’ve lived in Portland, OR for over 15 years. My journey began after moving into my first apartment in a gorgeous 100 year old brick apartment with original built-ins, hardwood floors and huge windows. I knew this space deserved to be something special. I had practically no budget so I thrifted tirelessly until my space slowly became a home. I started reading design books, magazines and watching shows about interiors and after a bit of trial and error, I fell in love with the process. I went on to go to school for design and eventually work for and with several incredible designers who taught me everything I know today. To them I am endlessly grateful!
I’ve created many different and varied looks for my clients but my personal style leans towards eclectic modern with lots of vintage touches. I love to include artisanal & hand-made pieces into the interiors I design. I am also a short term rental host which inspires me to create spaces that are not only aesthetically interesting but also stylishly livable with a strong practical element.
I believe in a collaborative approach and work closely with my clients to understand their practical needs, mixing this with décor styles and ideas they love to create a real ‘wow’ factor within any given space – from one room to an entire house. When a client witnesses themselves mirrored in their space, often for the first time, it is a profound privilege that continues to fuel my love for this work.
With each project, I embark on a journey with my clients, unearthing what sparks their joy and translating that to a living, breathing space that they can be proud to call their own.
